News of the inevitable

Privacy Notice

Short version: we don't track you, we don't set cookies, and we don't want your data. Of course, this could all change. If the last 20 years of technology has taught us anything, it's that it all starts with ideals and ends with the bottom line. It's entirely possible that one day in the future you'll find this site has a dreaded cookie banner or a subscription fee because --newsflash-- running this isn't free and the more people who visit, the more it costs to run. So don't take any of our principled beginning as a promise to never change--we're a sellout waiting to happen (but don't worry, we'll tell you first).

Here's the longer version.

Who we are

Dsrupt News runs this site and is responsible for the tiny amount of data described below. Contact: info at dsrupt.news.

What we collect

Very little:

  • Requests to the site. Like every website, ours sees your IP address, your browser type and the page you asked for. Our host, Cloudflare, uses these to deliver the page and to stop attacks. We don't keep IP addresses in our own systems.
  • Visit counts. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It sets no cookies, doesn't fingerprint you, and doesn't store your IP address. All we see is totals, such as "this article got 412 views". We can't tell any of them was you.
  • Emails you send us. If you write to info at dsrupt.news, we have your email address and whatever you wrote. We use it to reply, fix the correction you sent, or handle your complaint.

What we don't do

No accounts, no comments, no newsletter, no ads, no ad networks, no tracking pixels, no social media widgets, no "partners". We don't sell your data, share it for advertising, or build a profile of you.

Share buttons

The share buttons on our articles are plain links. Nothing from LinkedIn, Reddit, Bluesky, X, Facebook or WhatsApp loads when you read a page: no scripts, no cookies, no images. The icons are hosted locally. Only if you click one does your browser go to that site, where you're signed in to them (or not) and their privacy policy applies. We don't add tracking tags to the link, and we don't learn whether you shared anything. On phones, "Share…" opens your device's own share menu. "Email" opens your own mail app, and "Copy link" just copies the link.

Cookies (spoiler: none)

This site sets no cookies, and that includes analytics. If Cloudflare ever has to set a strictly necessary security cookie to block bots, it isn't used to track you. If that changes, this page changes first.

Who else touches it

Both may process data outside the UK and EU, under the standard safeguards (EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the EU–US Data Privacy Framework).

How long

  • Cloudflare keeps its request logs briefly, for security.
  • Analytics are only totals.
  • Emails are deleted within 12 months of the conversation ending, unless we need them for a legal claim.

Why we're allowed to (EU and UK)

Our legitimate interests: running a working, secure website, and answering people who write to us.

Your rights (EU and UK)

You can ask to see, correct or delete data we hold about you, or object to how we use it. Realistically, that means your emails. Email info at dsrupt.news and we'll answer within a month. You can also complain to your data protection authority (in the UK, the ICO), though we'd appreciate the chance to fix it first.

Your rights (California)

California's privacy law probably doesn't cover a site this small, but you get the same deal anyway. We don't sell or share personal information, and we don't use sensitive personal information. You can ask what we have on you, and ask us to correct or delete it. We won't treat you differently for asking.

Kids

This site isn't aimed at children, and we don't knowingly collect anything from them. We barely collect anything from adults.

Changes

If we start collecting anything new, we'll update this page before it goes live, and change the date below.
